DCTF Approves 27 Data Centre Projects with RM225.97 Billion Investment

Baku:A total of 27 data centre projects, with an estimated investment of RM225.97 billion, have been approved under the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) up to July 2026. The projects are distributed across Johor, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, with 16 in Johor, 10 in Selangor, and one in Negeri Sembilan. Among these, one data centre has commenced operations, while the others remain under construction.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Digital Ministry provided this information in a written response to Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Kuala Langat), who inquired about the approved data centres under DCTF by state and their expected economic benefits for local communities.

The projects are anticipated to create 4,053 jobs, out of which 3,523 are high-skilled positions in electrical and mechanical engineering, networking, cybersecurity, and data centre operations and maintenance. Malaysian nationals are expected to fill 89.21 percent of these high-skilled roles.

Projects approved under the DCTF must adhere to a minimum local content requirement of 30 percent. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) oversees implementation and compliance through biannual project implementation reports. Additionally, Talent Corporation Malaysia is developing a Data Centre Facilities Management Programme to enhance technology and skills transfers, training local participants in data centre operations and maintenance.
