Kuala lumpur: Defending mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have withdrawn from the 2026 BWF World Championships, scheduled to be held in New Delhi, from Aug 17 to 23. The pair's decision to pull out of the event was confirmed by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in a statement released today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the withdrawal comes as Ee Wei continues her rehabilitation following knee surgery. She suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to her left knee during the pair's quarterfinal match at the 2026 Singapore Open in May. BAM emphasized that the decision was made based on medical advice, with Ee Wei's long-term recovery being prioritized.
BAM further disclosed that they have submitted an application to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to protect Ee Wei's world ranking during her rehabilitation period. Tang Jie-Ee Wei made history last year in Paris by becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to capture the world title, marking a significant achievement for Malaysian badminton.
