Labuan: Demolition works on the iconic Hotel Labuan, the island's oldest hotel landmark, are progressing smoothly and in compliance with strict safety standards, Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib said today. He mentioned that the demolition exercise, which commenced in August 2025, is being executed with meticulous planning to prevent disruptions to the surrounding area, considering the hotel's central location and structural condition.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sukuran emphasized that the contractor tasked with the demolition is both experienced and capable. The entire process is being closely monitored to ensure that all operations adhere to strict safety SOPs and environmental requirements, with public safety as the foremost priority. The demolition is being conducted in phases and is expected to be completed within a 36-week timeframe.
Hotel Labuan, which was once a favored accommodation during the island's early development years, had been vacant for a significant period due to structural deterioration. Its removal is part of a broader plan aimed at revitalizing the town center through redevelopment efforts.
