Kuching: Sports associations at all levels have been urged to place a greater focus on grassroots development to ensure a steady pipeline of talent for the nation's future. Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting this objective by collaborating closely with sports bodies and endorsing their respective development strategies. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mordi highlighted the significance of grassroots development as a common factor among all sports, underscoring that successful athletes require a strong foundation, which is where sports associations play a crucial role. He made these remarks following a courtesy call from the Kuching Division Bodybuilding Association (KDBBA). Mordi pointed out that the KDBBA has established a clear athlete development pathway, commencing with the Mr. Kuching competition and advancing to state and national levels. Despite this structured approach, Mordi acknowledged the challenges faced by the bodybuilding communit y, particularly funding constraints for athletes participating in national or international championships. He noted that such financial limitations could restrict opportunities for high-performing athletes to gain necessary exposure at higher levels. Mordi assured that during his working visits, he intends to gain a deeper understanding of the concerns faced by sports stakeholders, particularly in Sarawak, and is committed to addressing these issues.
