KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara has unanimously passed the Supply (Budget) Bill 2025, marking a significant step in Malaysia’s legislative process and aligning with the strategic goals set forth in the country’s economic framework.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Basah announced the approval during a senate session. The bill’s passage follows six days of intensive debate and committee-level discussions for each ministry involved, which commenced on December 4.
The bill was introduced for its second reading by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan prior to its approval. The Budget 2025, initially tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on October 18, outlines an unprecedented allocation of RM421 billion. It is the largest budget in Malaysia’s history and is designed to align with the MADANI Economy framework.
The budget aims to attract high-quality investments and drive business opportunities while ensuring that public welfare projects do
not hinder access to essential goods and services. The legislative session of the Dewan Negara is set to continue on Monday.
