Dewan Rakyat Concludes Session After Passing 13 Bills

Kuala lumpur: The Dewan Rakyat adjourned today following a 16-day session that commenced on June 22, marking the conclusion of the Second Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 15th Parliament.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul highlighted in his adjournment speech that the session resulted in the passage of 13 Bills and several motions. Among the notable Bills passed were the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2026, the Sexual Offences Against Children (Amendment) Bill 2026, and the Cybercrimes Bill 2026. Additional legislative measures approved included the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2026, the Competition Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026, the Control of Padi and Rice (Amendment) Bill 2026, the Witness Protection (Amendment) Bill 2026, and the Social Work Profession Bill 2026.

Further notable Bills passed during the session were the Communications and Multimedia (Amendment) Bill 2026, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026, the National Trust Fund Bill 2026, and the Statistics Bill 2026. The session also featured three ministerial briefings, one minister's briefing in the Special Chamber, and six briefings by the Select Committee chairmen on various reports.

Dr Johari also urged all Members of Parliament to complete health screenings by October 30 and submit their health records for parliamentary safekeeping. He emphasized the importance of maintaining health during the upcoming election campaign period.

In an announcement, Dr Johari shared that the Malaysian Parliament will organize its inaugural fun run, 'Larian Cergas Parlimen 2026', on July 25 to encourage a healthy lifestyle and enhance community engagement in health and fitness activities. This event will be open to Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, participants of the Malaysian Youth Parliament programme, and the public.

Before closing his address, Dr Johari extended his appreciation to all Members of Parliament for their cooperation, as well as to government officials, parliamentary staff, media representatives, and all parties involved in managing the session's proceedings. The Dewan Rakyat will reconvene on a date yet to be announced.
