Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is set to open the National Shelter Month (NSM) 2025 celebration on Wednesday to provide dignified, safe, and affordable housing for Filipino families. In a news release on Tuesday, the DHSUD said the celebration, with the theme 'Build Homes, Build Happiness," will be held at the agency's Central Office auditorium, uniting government agencies, private developers, and other stakeholders in the mission.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling emphasized the importance of homes as places where children feel safe to dream, parents find strength, and families draw comfort during difficult times. He stated that the initiative is about building dignified lives, not just shelters. Aliling also highlighted the directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to intensify efforts in promoting a dignified life for Filipinos through decent housing and efficient public service.

Aliling underscored the necessity of solidarity across government, civil society, and the private sector to achieve the goal of providing dignified housing. Throughout October, DHSUD regional offices and Key Shelter Agencies (KSAs) will spearhead activities nationwide, including housing summits, fora, community caravans, training sessions, and project site visits. These activities aim to strengthen partnerships and expand opportunities for Filipinos to access affordable and secure homes.

National Shelter Month, declared under Proclamation 662, is observed every October to emphasize the importance of adequate housing as a cornerstone of nation-building and a shared responsibility of all sectors. Aliling concluded by stating that every home built is a story of hope, and every family served is a testament to the significance of public service, aiming to make Bagong Pilipinas a reality, one home, one community, one future at a time.
