Kuala lumpur: The landmark ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) is set to transform ASEAN into a borderless digital marketplace, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated today. The announcement was made during the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2025 with his speech read out by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted Malaysia's leadership role in the ASEAN AI Safety Network (AI Safe), emphasizing the importance of developing and applying artificial intelligence responsibly, transparently, and ethically across the region. Anwar underscored the commitment to ensuring that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which form the backbone of ASEAN's economy, are integrated into the digital transformation. Through regional programs aimed at expanding access to digital tools, skills, and financing, ASEAN seeks to empower enterprises of all sizes to thrive in the digital era.

He further stated that these initiatives are geared towards creating a future where technology fosters inclusion, innovation, and sustainable growth across the region.
