Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Communications is concentrating on empowering digital infrastructure, the creative and information industries, and government communications this year, announced its minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, digital infrastructure empowerment involves extensive planning, including the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) Phase 2 and the deployment of Point of Presence (PoP) Phase 2 solutions in specific areas. Fahmi highlighted efforts to assist schools with PoP installations, as well as the setup of WiFi networks in educational institutions like universities, Mara colleges, and polytechnics. He also mentioned the planning of undersea cables as a critical area requiring policy development, which has prompted the ministry's Policy and International Division to conduct a review.
Fahmi emphasized the need for the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd (MyCreative) to explore ways to enhance the country's creative industry, noting its seven percent contribution to the GDP. He expressed optimism about the upcoming screening of the film Papa Zola in several Indonesian cinemas, illustrating the potential for Malaysian films in the international market. Fahmi stressed the importance of supporting the creative industry, including animation, and the necessity of securing funds from both the ministry and private sector partners for its development.
For the empowerment of government information and communication, Fahmi underscored the importance of clear information dissemination. He advocated for the preparation of easy-to-understand graphics for new policies introduced by the MADANI Government, as well as the creation of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to ensure the client audience receives necessary information promptly.
The event also saw the attendance of Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching and Ministry of Communications secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah.
