Digital Ministry Explores AI Incentives for 2027 Budget

Petaling jaya: The government is set to focus on expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology as it prepares to table the 2027 Budget this October. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted that this initiative includes exploring systems to promote broader usage of AI tools.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Digital recently launched AI Malaysia, which requires substantial funding to mobilize expertise and develop AI infrastructure. This is crucial for supporting the growth of AI technology across all sectors in Malaysia.

Gobind emphasized the need for infrastructure development to ensure AI can advance in every sector. He stated that these efforts will be a focal point in the upcoming budget. The high costs associated with AI are a barrier to its full utilization, even though society and businesses understand its benefits.

He also noted the importance of technology in assisting small traders, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises. While it is too early to discuss specifics, Gobind expressed hope for initiatives in the 2027 Budget that will support these enterprises.

In a related event, Gobind spoke at the Petaling Jaya (PJ) Startup Festival 2026, emphasizing its role in showcasing around 100 booths and attracting approximately 2,000 participants. The festival highlights the increased focus on startup companies and efforts to strengthen Malaysia's startup ecosystem.

Gobind, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damansara, remarked that the festival serves as a platform to discover new talent and potential, offering opportunities for investors to explore and support innovative business ideas presented by startups.
