Kuala Terengganu: Jani Yusof, a man with disabilities, will soon have a more comfortable home for his wife and three children with assistance from the Terengganu State Development Office under the Prime Minister's Department Implementation Coordination Unit.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Terengganu Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Mohd Hasbie Muda said he had discussed with the unit's state director Abdul Kahar Abdul Latif to expedite the construction of a new house on the site of Jani's current dilapidated wooden home. The unit assists in building new houses or repairing damaged ones, especially for those registered under e-Kasih. The family has been verified as e-Kasih recipients.
However, an issue with the land title needs resolution before construction can begin, as the land is currently under the name of Maznah Abu Bakar's brother, Jani's wife. The land title must be transferred to Maznah. PH Terengganu will assist in expediting this process, Mohd Hasbie stated after visiting Jani's home in Kampung Darat, Batu Rakit.
Mohd Hasbie also mentioned that PH Terengganu will provide immediate assistance worth RM10,000 in the form of essential items like fans and a refrigerator, along with urgent home repairs including fixing walls and doors. They will cover the installation of water supply since Jani's family relies on a nearby mosque, neighbours, and rainwater collection.
Jani, 62, was born with a disability in his right leg and recently gained attention after it was revealed that financial hardship forced him to feed his family with expired food from supermarkets. He earns around RM200 a month by collecting and selling empty bottles, scrap metal, and plastic. The family lives in a makeshift plywood house on land owned by his wife's brother.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Angkatan Muda Keadilan chief Md Asyraf Zulfadhly Md Zainudin stated that the youth wing will adopt the family as part of its welfare programme to support the education of their two school-going sons, Muhammad Aqil Azhari, 8, and Muhammad Syahrin Izzudin, 7.
