DOE Allocates RM100,000 for Sustainability Projects at SK Kampung Tun Razak

Bukit katil: The Department of Environment (DOE) has allocated RM100,000 to implement two projects under the MADANI Adopted School (SAM) initiative at SK Kampung Tun Razak in Bukit Katil. The funding is designated for the Green House and Aquaponics Facility Project as well as the Digitalisation of the School Resource Centre Project, according to Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar, the director-general of DOE.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff explained that SK Kampung Tun Razak was chosen due to its existing sustainability orientation. "We hope these programmes will further strengthen environmental stewardship among the school community," he stated at the launch of SAM and the Guidelines for Implementing and Assessing Sustainable Schools - Environmental Award (SLAAS). The event was also attended by Melaka DOE director Rosli Mustafa and SK Kampung Tun Razak headmaster Norazman Hussin.

During his speech, Wan Abdul Latiff highlighted the new SLAAS guidelines, which were developed jointly by DOE, the Ministry of Education (MOE), and University Kebangsaan Malaysia's Institute for Environment and Development (Lestari). These guidelines will serve as the official reference for the 2025/2026 SLAAS cycle. As of November 25, a total of 1,598 schools have registered for SLAAS, with DOE aiming for a 30 percent participation rate from the country's 10,220 schools.

In a statement, DOE emphasized that SAM is a Finance Ministry initiative, supported by the MOE, that allocates RM100,000 to each selected school for sustainability projects. SK Kampung Tun Razak is the 16th school in Melaka to benefit from this programme, further strengthening the state's network of sustainability-focused schools.
