Kuala lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur Department of Environment (DOE) inspected 50 motorcycles in an enforcement operation around the capital city yesterday, with six issued compounds after failing noise and exhaust emission tests.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, KL DOE director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Wahab stated that the six motorcycles were found to have committed offences contributing to air pollution and noise nuisance. The compounds were issued under the Environmental Quality (Motor Vehicle Noise) Regulations 1987 and Environmental Quality (Control of Emissions from Motorcycles) Regulations 2003.

She emphasized that the operation, which also involved the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station and the KL Road Transport Department (JPJ), would continue to ensure that riders comply with existing regulations and laws. 'Consistent enforcement measures are important to safeguard environmental sustainability, thereby contributing to better air quality for public well-being,' she said.

Meanwhile, Sharifah Zakiah highlighted that the KL DOE conducted 50 enforcement operations focusing on motorcycle exhaust emissions and noise offences throughout this year. Through these operations, 235 compounds had been issued to motorcycle owners found to be in violation.
