‘Don’t Only Show Up When Elections Draw Near,’ Tengku Hassanal Tells Reps

Kuantan: The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, today reminded all elected representatives in the state to carry out their responsibilities with full dedication and integrity without waiting for the election season. His Royal Highness also wants issues affecting residents to be resolved immediately, with elected representatives urged to be more proactive.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Hassanal emphasized the importance of representatives being actively involved in addressing community concerns such as clogged school drains, stray dogs, collapsed embankments, or tree-cutting matters, which should not escalate to the level of his attention. He urged the representatives to engage with departments and agencies as necessary, emphasizing their role as the people's chosen leaders.

In his royal address during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Pahang State Legislative Assembly at Wisma Sri Pahang, Tengku Hassanal further advised against waiting until the election year to make their presence known and start addressing issues. He also stressed the importance of maintaining unity ahead of the next general election, urging all parties to avoid issues that could undermine social cohesion and to practice political maturity.

Tengku Hassanal expressed a firm stance against actions that incite racial or religious hatred and emphasized the need for respect, tolerance, and adherence to the rule of law. He called for an end to the manipulation of 3R issues-race, religion, and royalty-urging responsible conduct from all parties involved.

Additionally, the Crown Prince warned that the construction of places of worship must adhere strictly to legal and regulatory frameworks, regardless of whether they are on government or private land. He emphasized that emotional reactions should not dictate actions, and reiterated that no one is above the law when it comes to maintaining the peace and stability of the state.
