Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all parties not to question the involvement of local activists in humanitarian missions to assist the people of Palestine, nor the visit of United States President Donald Trump in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit at the end of this month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that as the international community, including Egypt, Qatar, and Hamas, is focusing on finding a peaceful resolution, Malaysians should likewise pray for the success of these efforts instead of fuelling unhealthy political polemics. He highlighted the importance of supporting global peace initiatives and discouraged opposition to Trump's visit, as it aims to promote the signing and implementation of a peace agreement.
Anwar pointed out that if Hamas is showing commitment towards peace, it would be inappropriate for any quarters in the country to create division. He stressed the need to end the atrocities faced by the Palestinian people, including the killing of innocent children and women and the occupation of their homeland.
The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to Malaysian volunteers participating in the humanitarian flotilla mission to Gaza, describing their courage as a significant act of sacrifice. He acknowledged that not everyone is willing to risk their lives to assist the people of Gaza and extended gratitude and prayers to those who do.
Regarding the nine Malaysians detained in Israel on Oct 8 after joining the humanitarian mission, Anwar mentioned that arrangements for their return are being coordinated with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He expressed hope for their safe arrival in Istanbul and promised to provide further updates during the tabling of Budget 2026.
Earlier, Anwar joined nearly 500 worshippers in prayers led by Ustaz Khairul Anuar Mohd Saruwan and listened to a sermon titled 'Lelaki Qawwam Bukan Sekadar Nama'.
