Nilai: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today congratulated national track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang on winning the gold medal in the men's keirin event at the 2026 UCI Track World Cup at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, highlighted the success of the rider, popularly known as 'The Pocket Rocketman', attributing it to the spirit and drive of a true champion. He described Mohd Azizulhasni Awang as a living legend, emphasizing the significance of his performance.
Ahmad Zahid expressed that anyone who witnessed the race could see it was not an ordinary ride but was propelled by the determination and essence of a champion. He extended his congratulations to Datuk Azizulhasni Awang and thanked him for making Malaysia proud with his achievement.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist's performance saw him surpass his main rival, world champion Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands, who finished in second place, while Nicholas Paul secured third place. This victory marked Mohd Azizulhasni's second win in the World Cup series this season, following his triumph in the same event in Perth, Australia, in March.
