Beijing: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will be leading Malaysia's official delegation on a week-long working visit to China, commencing today and concluding on September 22. The visit aims to enhance bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation in energy and water management.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah will participate in the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Nanning, Guangxi. The Expo serves as a significant trade and investment platform, fostering collaboration between ASEAN countries and China. Malaysia's involvement in CAEXPO 2025 is expected to bolster its role as the coordinator of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations from 2024 to 2027. The participation will also open doors for strategic investment and development in regional infrastructure, smart cities, and green technology innovation.
Fadillah is also scheduled to engage in a high-level meeting with China's Vice Premier Liu Guozhong, who is responsible for the Ministry of Water Resources. The meeting will focus on exploring strategic cooperation in water management, encompassing technology exchange, capacity building, and sustainable initiatives beneficial to both nations.
The official visit will extend to Beijing and Chongqing, with discussions centered on renewable energy, energy storage systems, and next-generation nuclear technology. Innovative water management approaches like the Sponge City model for flood mitigation and climate adaptation will be highlighted. Other areas of focus include reclaimed water systems, underground plant development, and biogas energy generation.
Malaysia seeks to leverage China's expertise in these fields to bolster national agendas, such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the 2040 Water Transformation Plan (AIR 2040), ensuring long-term water and energy security.
Given China's status as Malaysia's largest trading partner, the visit is anticipated to attract substantial investments in clean energy and green technology, enhancing Malaysia's economic competitiveness. Consistent with the Malaysia MADANI vision, the visit underscores Malaysia's dedication to playing a significant role in ASEAN-China cooperation frameworks and positions the nation as a strategic partner on both regional and global stages.
