DTI offers skills training, discount caravan for Mayon evacuees

The Department of Trade and Industry in Bicol (DTI-5) is planning to conduct a skills training program for those displaced by the restiveness of Mayon Volcano. In an interview on Thursday, DTI-5 officer in charge (OIC) Regional Director Dindo Nabol said they are currently assessing the right kind of skills needed in the evacuation sites. “We started conducting the assessment to identify the existing skills and economic activities of the affected barangays. With this, we will provide the possible skills training needed in evacuation centers. We will consolidate all the reports and make proposals,” Nabol said. Aside from the skills training, DTI-5 is also planning for a “Diskwento Caravan” to allow evacuees to access essential goods and prime commodities at reduced prices by bringing manufacturers and retailers closer to them. “We will schedule the Diskwento Caravan, we are ready for that,” he said. Nabol said that based on their monitoring, all business owners and traders in Albay are compliant with the price freeze being implemented in the province. (
