Serdang: The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) today launched five latest-edition (2025) poultry farming guidebooks covering village chickens, broiler chickens, layer chickens, ducks, and quail. This initiative aims to strengthen the delivery of technical information and improve farm management efficiency among farmers and industry players.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the guidebooks were produced through collaboration between the public sector, academia, and industry. This joint effort combines technical expertise with practical field experience to provide an easy-to-use reference for technical officers, farmers, and operators. The guidebooks offer comprehensive and practical technical references, including breed selection, open- and closed-house management, nutrition with alternative feed sources, health and vaccination programs, and farm biosecurity.

The guidebooks also cover economic analysis and project viability, including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Gross Margin. These aspects enable them to serve as references from the planning and rearing stages through to marketing. The launch of the guidebooks took place today during the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), officiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) deputy secretary-general (Development), Datuk Luqman Ahmad.

DVS stated that all five guidebooks are also available digitally via QR codes and its official portal, making them accessible to farmers, technical officers, operators, and the public at any time. The department emphasized that the guidebooks are timely for the industry, helping to strengthen Good Agricultural and Husbandry Practices (GAHP/MyGAP), improve biosecurity, enhance livestock health management, and ensure farm performance can be monitored more systematically and effectively.
