Kuala lumpur: The Equestrian Association of Malaysia (EAM) has set a target of at least six gold medals at the 2027 SEA Games, which will be hosted by Malaysia. Its honorary secretary, Yap Mou Soon, stated that the target is realistic as the association plans to include endurance in the Games programme, a discipline that has been Malaysia's main strength at the international level.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yap Mou Soon highlighted that the equestrian squad consistently returns with medals whenever competing overseas, and they hope to replicate that success on home ground. Their Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the Malaysia SEA Games is to secure six gold medals, as discussed during a working committee meeting in Bukit Jalil.

Yap Mou Soon mentioned that EAM will propose seven events to be contested: show jumping (team and individual), dressage (team and individual), eventing (team and individual), and endurance, pending approval by the organising committee. He acknowledged that the main challenge in achieving the gold medal target is securing quality horses, noting that countries like Thailand are using very expensive horses, pushing Malaysia to raise its standards in this aspect.

Additionally, EAM is aiming for two gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4. Yap Mou Soon expressed hope to win one gold in the individual dressage event and another in individual show jumping. Megan Ding and Shoorendran Nageswaran are the two medal hopefuls in dressage and show jumping, respectively.
