National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Subfertility Expertise Centre senior assistant director Dr Ahmad Zaki Asraf emphasized that health screenings should not be delayed until symptoms appear or until reaching the age of 40.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ahmad Zaki highlighted the importance of beginning health checks early, including monitoring body weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. He also advised adopting a healthy diet with reduced sugar and salt intake. These recommendations were shared during the second season of the KASIH Lensa Keluarga Podcast titled 'Lelaki Budiman: Sihat Sepanjang Hayat'.

Dr Ahmad Zaki stressed that men in their 40s should be particularly vigilant about their health, as chronic diseases can lead to severe complications if not detected and managed in time. He further elaborated that for men aged 60 and above, complications from unmanaged diseases could impair functional health, affecting the heart, vision, and hearing, and potentially straining family relationships.

He also noted that issues like overweight and obesity should not be overlooked, given their impact on hormonal balance, sexual health, male fertility, and the increased risk of cardiovascular problems. Dr Ahmad Zaki recommended lifestyle modifications, such as weight management, diet regulation, regular exercise, adequate rest, and managing stress and marital harmony, as the first steps in treatment rather than medication or surgery.

Highlighting the negative cycle created by prolonged work stress, lack of sleep, unhealthy eating, and a sedentary lifestyle, Dr Ahmad Zaki pointed out that these factors can leave men feeling exhausted, less motivated to exercise, and prone to weight gain, all of which may affect marital relations. He underscored the need to address male health and fertility issues at an earlier stage, as overall health significantly impacts the well-being of men and their partners.

Furthermore, Dr Ahmad Zaki mentioned that LPPKN offers various health and fertility screenings for men, including assessments of blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, body mass index (BMI), semen analysis, and infectious disease screenings through its Men's Wellness Clinic services at seven locations nationwide. He concluded by stating the importance of early screenings to identify the root causes of health problems and facilitate effective treatment.
