Kuala lumpur: The Election Commission (EC) has reiterated its dedication to conducting the nation's electoral processes with fairness, transparency, and integrity as it celebrates its 69th anniversary. The EC emphasized its ongoing evolution and efforts to bolster the democratic system through elections.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the EC highlighted in a Facebook post its continuous strides in enhancing service delivery to the public, focusing on increased efficiency and transparency. The post expressed hope for the EC's future, stating, "May the EC continue to move forward with integrity and remain a trusted democratic institution in safeguarding and strengthening the country's democratic process."

The EC was founded on September 4, 1957, under Article 114 of the Federal Constitution. Initially, its membership included a chairman and two members, with Datuk Dr Mustafa Albakri Hassan serving as the first chairman, alongside members Lee Ewe Boon and Ditt Singh.

Following the establishment of Malaysia in 1963, the EC expanded its membership to include an additional member from either Sabah or Sarawak on a rotating basis, reflecting the nation's growing diversity. In 2002, the EC further expanded to seven members, comprising a chairman, deputy chairman, and five members, including representatives from Sabah and Sarawak.
