ECERDC, MDA to cooperate on increasing investment opportunities

KOTA BHARU, Sept 9 (Bernama) — The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) and the Medical Device Authority (MDA) are set to work together in increasing investment opportunities, especially for the manufacturing of medical devices at ECERDC industrial parks.

ECERDC chief executive officer Datuk Baidzawi Che Mat said the exchange of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties was the result of ECERDC’s continuous efforts to promote the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) as a competitive investment destination.

“This MoU exchange between ECERDC and MDA is expected to further strengthen cooperation between both parties to attract new investment in the manufacturing of medical devices in the ECER Region,” he said in a statement today.

In the ceremony held at the Kota Darul Naim Complex here, Baidzawi represented ECERDC, while MDA was represented by its chief executive, Shariff Hambali.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also witnessed the exchange of the MoU along with members of the ECER Council, namely Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Meanwhile, Baidzawi said during the ceremony, ECERDC also exchanged agreement documents with the Petronas Foundation aimed at strengthening the foundation’s continued support for the ‘ECER MEKAR Master Plan’ programme.

“The joint programme with Yayasan Petronas will benefit 600 students for academic programmes in three districts, as well as 1,880 entrepreneurs for skills training and entrepreneurship development programmes,” he said.
