Educational Institutions In Johor To Be Placed In Group B From Jan 1, 2025 – MOE

Educational institutions in Johor will be grouped with states that observe a Saturday-Sunday weekend (Group B), effective Jan 1 next year, according to the Ministry of Education (MOE).

In a statement today, the ministry said the shift would involve changes to the 2024/2025 Session Academic Calendar and the 2025/2026 Session Academic Calendar.

‘The MOE takes note of the change in Johor’s weekend holidays to Saturday and Sunday, from Jan 1, 2025, in accordance with the decree of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

‘Therefore, educational institutions in Johor will be grouped with Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Putrajaya, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak, and Selangor in Group B, which sets Saturday and Sunday as weekend holidays,’ read the statement.

Meanwhile, Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said schools under the MOE in the state would begin implementing the Saturday-Sunday weekend holiday prior to the start of the year-end school holiday
s for the 2024/2025 session on Jan 18, 2025.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Legal Literacy Carnival in Kota Tinggi, Johor today, he said that the change would involve 583,373 students and more than 48,000 teachers in schools under the MOE.

On Oct 7, Tunku Mahkota Ismail announced that the weekend holiday in Johor would be changed to Saturday and Sunday, starting on Jan 1.

Other states currently observing the Friday and Saturday weekend include Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah.
