Lawas: An elderly man was found burnt to death in a fire that destroyed a terrace house in Lawas, Sarawak's northernmost town, this morning. The body of Dudol Karim, 89, was discovered in the debris of the semi-permanent house at about 6 am after the blaze was successfully extinguished. The body was then handed over to the police for further action.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre (PGO) revealed that two other occupants of the house, Gairil Mustafa, 32, and Nursyamioy Drahman, 31, survived the incident. The department received a distress call about the fire at 4.18 am, and a team of 14 firefighters in a fire engine from the Lawas Fire and Rescue Station was sent to the scene.
The fire was brought under control at 4.30 am and was fully extinguished at 6 am.
