Election Commission Receives 133 Responses on Sarawak Boundary Review

Kuala Lampur:The Election Commission (EC) has gathered 133 responses concerning the proposed review of federal and state electoral boundaries in Sarawak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these responses were collected during a month-long public display of the proposed boundary review held from September 1 to 30. Out of the total submissions, 126 were objections, while the remaining seven expressed support for the review.

EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus stated that the Commission plans to convene a special meeting to scrutinize and deliberate on all received representations. This meeting will focus on those submissions meeting the criteria for the Local Inquiry process, as outlined by the Federal Constitution's provisions and electoral boundary review procedures.

Following the special meeting, the EC will determine the course of the Local Inquiry process. Notices for participation in the proceedings will be dispatched to all eligible parties at least two weeks prior to the event.

The EC has a two-year timeframe to finalize the review, beginning from the publication date of the notice as per Section 4 of the 13th Schedule of the Federal Constitution on September 1, 2026. This period extends until the final review report is presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in accordance with Clause 10 of Article 113 of the Federal Constitution.
