Electrician Pleads Not Guilty To Mischief, Causing Hurt To Man


GEORGE TOWN, An electrician pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to charges of causing damage to a car and hurting a man in the face by punching them.

On the first count, Mohd Hafiz Abidin, 38, was charged with committing mischief to a Honda BRV owned by a 54-year-old man by punching its window till it cracked, resulting in a loss of RM1,570.50, in front of the office of the Penang Civil Defence Force at No. 15, Peel Highway here, at 2.30 pm last Oct 17.

The charge, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to five years or with a fine or both upon conviction.

He was also charged with voluntarily causing hurt to a 35-year-old man by punching him in the face by a roadside at Lebuh Kimberley here at 6.35 pm last Sept 12.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both if convicted.

Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi, in allowing Mohd Hafiz bail of RM5,000 with one surety for
each charge, set Nov 21 for mention. She also ordered Mohd Hafiz not to intimidate the victim and witness in the case.

Deputy public prosecutor M.Darrshini appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
