Energy Supply Assured Amid Strait Of Hormuz Tensions, Says Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's energy sector fuel supply remains stable, with the government closely monitoring the latest developments surrounding tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said. He confirmed that Malaysia is not currently facing any energy supply disruptions, thanks to proactive measures taken by Petronas and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim through multi-level negotiations aimed at maintaining national energy security.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Petronas has been actively collaborating with the Prime Minister, engaging in negotiations at various levels to ensure the security of Malaysia's energy supply. "So far, our supply is guaranteed," Fadillah mentioned after attending the closing ceremony of Regatta 2026 at the main jetty in Kampung Sejijak.

Despite the stable energy supply, Fadillah, who also serves as the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, expressed concerns about the potential impact of geopolitical developments and fluctuating global oil and gas prices on the economy. He highlighted the challenge posed by pricing volatility, stating that it could affect Malaysia's supply position.

Fadillah also pointed out the financial pressures on the country, despite ongoing government efforts to implement subsidy and assistance programs for the populace. He emphasized the importance of planning for financial sustainability while ensuring that public support remains a government priority.
