Escorting Sister To University Registration Became Brother’s Final Act Of Kindness

Tanjong malim: Sending his younger sister to register as a new student at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Tanjong Malim, became the final act of kindness from a brother who collapsed and died while on the way to the university yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UPSI, in a statement, said the incident occurred around 6.30 am when Nik Mohamad Syahrul Azzim Nik Yusoff, 29, also a UPSI alumnus, suddenly lost consciousness while driving upon reaching the Sungai Besi toll plaza from Seremban en route to Tanjong Malim. In that tense moment, his sister Nik Nur Maisarah Nik Yusoff, 18, who was seated next to him, managed to hold the steering wheel to prevent their vehicle from crashing into the toll plaza. Although the car skidded, she and another sister in the vehicle escaped unhurt.

The statement further confirmed that Nik Mohamad Syahrul was pronounced dead upon arrival at Serdang Hospital, and an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be sudden cardiac arrest with no prior symptoms. The body was taken home to Seremban and was laid to rest at the Forest High Muslim Cemetery, attended by family, friends, and former university acquaintances.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, UPSI deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Dr Norkhalid Salimin, who visited the family, expressed the university's deep condolences. 'Our condolences go out to the family of Nik Mohamad Syahrul. UPSI not only prioritises academic excellence but also places great importance on student welfare and emotional support, especially in situations of loss like this.

This tragedy has left sorrow not only with the family but also with the entire UPSI community, who regarded the late alumnus as one of the university's outstanding graduates,' he was quoted as saying.
