EV Adoption in Malaysia Surpasses 94,000 Units Since 2018

Kuala lumpur: Electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Malaysia continues to show encouraging growth, with the total number of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger vehicles reaching 94,165 units from 2018 to date. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasized that EVs are now a strategic necessity linked to investment, industrial competitiveness, energy security, and the people's well-being.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof chaired the National EV Steering Committee (NEVSC) Meeting No. 1/2026 at Menara MITI. The meeting aimed to strengthen the development of the country's EV ecosystem. Fadillah highlighted Malaysia's progress in EV adoption, particularly in the BEV category, as a positive sign of the country's commitment to advancing its EV industry.

Fadillah, who also serves as the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, stated that the meeting focused on identifying practical, high-impact solutions for near-future implementation. This is expected to bolster the country's EV industry and ecosystem in a more progressive, coordinated, and competitive manner.
