Every Fatwa In Selangor Goes Through Rigorous Process: Sultan Sharafuddin

Shah alam: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today emphasized that each fatwa issued in the state undergoes a structured and thorough process. The Sultan highlighted the importance of this diligence, which involves considering views from various parties, especially the state Fatwa Committee and syariah law experts.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a statement on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page described the procedures undertaken before a fatwa is issued. It stated that each ruling must involve complete data collection, comprehensive information gathering, and a precise understanding of the issue before it is discussed. A 'Muzakarah Pakar' (Expert Discussion) is then conducted, attended by religious scholars, academics, relevant stakeholders, and officers from authorized bodies.

If no firm resolution is reached, a 'Bahthul Masail' (discussion of issues) is convened for a more focused and detailed resolution of complex matters. Subsequently, a Fatwa Committee Meeting is held under Section 48(2) of the Selangor Islamic Religious Administration Enactment 2003. Every study presented at this meeting includes two-way discussions between researchers and committee members and holds scholarly value.

The 'sighah' (wording) of the decided fatwa is reviewed during the Technical Committee for the Harmonisation of Fatwa Meeting. This sighah is then submitted to the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) Members' Meeting, which evaluates the proposed fatwa and recommends it to the Sultan of Selangor for gazettement.

Once the Sultan consents, the fatwa is submitted to the State Executive Council Meeting. The Selangor Royal Office further stated that the legal advisor's chamber reviews the fatwa before it is published in the Selangor government gazette. Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin called on Muslims and the people of Selangor to understand and appreciate the essence of the Friday sermon titled 'Precision in Issuing Fatwas'.
