Penampang: Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick urged Malaysians, especially in Sabah, to fill the meaning of national independence by defending the unity, well-being, and peace currently enjoyed. He emphasized that these elements are crucial for sustainable national development and the continued defense of national sovereignty.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ewon highlighted the importance of cooperation, unity, and harmony as foundational elements for the nation's stability. He warned that disunity and conflict could enable external parties to further divide the country if its people are in conflict. He made these remarks while addressing reporters after officiating the Sabah Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2025.

The Sabah Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2025 convoy involves 20 vehicles and 60 participants from various government departments and agencies. Over 20 days, the convoy will cover 2,500 kilometres, stopping at 75 locations throughout the state. The annual program, organized by the Sabah Information Department, aims to engage the community in this year's National Day and Sabah Day celebrations. The journey commenced in Penampang and will conclude in Tuaran on August 23.

Ewon expressed hope that similar programs will continue in the future to ignite patriotic spirit and foster love for the country. He also invited Sabah's residents to participate in the "One House, One Jalur Gemilang" initiative by flying at least one Malaysian flag at their homes.

Commenting on the National Day theme "Malaysia MADANI, Rakyat Disantuni" (Malaysia MADANI, People Cared For), Ewon noted that it aligns with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan. He stated that the theme reflects the commitment of the MADANI government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to empower the nation's development vision and uplift the dignity of the people. Ewon expressed confidence that the people understand the government's efforts to care for them and champion their dignity.
