Shah alam: A factory supervisor has been formally charged at the Magistrate's Court for the murder of a nine-month-old boy earlier this month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Syahril Nazrul Ruslim, 37, is accused of causing the infant's death at an apartment in Taman Bayu Perdana at approximately 3.30 pm on April 6. The charge is brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code. This section stipulates the death penalty or, alternatively, imprisonment of up to 40 years with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not applied.
No plea was recorded from Mohd Syahril Nazrul Ruslim as the charge was read before Magistrate A. Khartiyayini. Under Malaysian law, murder cases are tried in the High Court, which explains the lack of plea at this stage.
The case has been scheduled for mention on July 6, at which point the submission of the forensic report is also expected. Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Syuhada Rosli represented the prosecution during the proceedings, while the accused did not have legal representation.
