Fadillah Engages with South Korean Envoy and Romanian Ambassador on Green Energy Initiatives

Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today received courtesy visits from South Korean President's Special Envoy Kim Young Choon and Romanian Ambassador to Malaysia Nineta Barbulescu at the Courtesy Room in Parliament. Fadillah, who also serves as the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, engaged in discussions focused on advancing green energy development and comprehensive carbon reduction efforts.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kim Young Choon expressed the high commitment of the new South Korean government to green energy initiatives. The discussions also included efforts to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea, particularly in relation to a more sustainable and integrated ASEAN Energy Grid. Kim further announced South Korea's readiness to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministers' Meeting (EMM) slated for August.

Fadillah highlighted the importance of the relationship with South Korea, Malaysia's eighth largest trading partner, emphasizing the potential for enhanced cooperation in energy transition and water sector transformation aimed at sustainable development.

During the meeting with Romanian Ambassador Nineta Barbulescu, Fadillah commended Romania's efforts in advancing the green energy sector. He noted that despite its relatively small population of around 19 million, Romania's achievements in this area are noteworthy.

Fadillah affirmed Malaysia's commitment to the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2050. He emphasized Malaysia's readiness to establish stronger partnerships with strategic trading partners, including those in Eastern Europe, to bolster the green energy sector and promote inclusive and sustainable development.
