Fahmi Announces Review of Dress Code Exemptions for Front-Line Services

Kuala lumpur: The Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) will review the Cabinet's proposal regarding exemptions from the dress code for front-line services such as healthcare and security facilities. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that today's Cabinet meeting proposed that several front-line services, including police stations and other government premises, be exempted from the Chief Secretary to the Government's Circular dated Dec 1, 2020.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi noted that a recent incident highlighted the need for this review when an individual was reportedly denied entry to file a police report due to a clothing issue. Fahmi mentioned that the Chief Secretary to the Government will review the circular and make necessary improvements. Additionally, Fahmi, who is the spokesperson for the MADANI Government, indicated that further statements and new circulars will be issued soon after the review is complete.

Fahmi emphasized the Prime Minister's stance that security issues involving police stations should not prevent individuals from making police reports. This statement comes after Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar reported that a woman was denied entry to a district police headquarters for violating the dress code, as went viral on social media.

The incident involved a woman in her early 20s and her mother in her 50s, who sought to file a report following a road accident. Their entry was denied because their skirts were shorter than knee length, which violated the dress code set for government premises.
