Fahmi Expresses Condolences to Family of Late Journalist Joseph Bingkasan

Kota kinabalu: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has expressed his condolences to the family of former editorial head of the New Straits Times for Sabah and Sarawak, Joseph Bingkasan, who died early today. Fahmi stated he was saddened by Joseph's passing, acknowledging his significant contributions to the journalism industry, especially in enhancing the editorial landscape in Sabah and Sarawak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi conveyed his sympathies to the family and wished them strength and resilience during this difficult time. He shared his message of condolence in a Facebook post. Fahmi highlighted Joseph as a recipient of the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA aid in 2023.

Joseph Bingkasan passed away at 3.56 am at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, reportedly due to cancer. He was 71 years old. His extensive experience in journalism began as a sub-editor with the Kinabalu Sabah Times in 1977. He later joined the New Straits Times Press as a correspondent in Sabah.

Joseph also served at Times of Malaysia London Ltd, working in the NST office in London, before being appointed as the editorial head of NST Sabah and Sarawak, based in Kuching. He had previously worked with Sabah's local newspaper, the Daily Express.
