FAM Defers Audit Report Disclosure Decision to AFC

Kuala lumpur: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has announced that it will defer to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) regarding the decision to disclose a full audit report. This follows a call from Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh for the report to be made public and tabled in Parliament.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, FAM secretary-general Noor Azman Rahman emphasized that the audit report cannot be disclosed without careful consideration. He highlighted concerns about potential perceptions of external interference in the administration of the national football governing body. "As far as FAM is concerned, we cannot simply release it because we do not want government interference in the association," Noor Azman stated. He further mentioned that discussions with AFC and FIFA have already identified and addressed the weaknesses identified in the audit.

FAM honorary president Hamidin Mohd Amin added that the decision regarding the report's disclosure now lies with FAM's new leadership. "That is their prerogative. We will wait for the decision from FAM or AFC on whether the report will be disclosed," he said. Hamidin clarified that he does not have the authority in this matter and that the decision will involve discussions between the new FAM president, the executive committee, and AFC.

Earlier media reports revealed that Ramkarpal Singh advocated for the public release of the AFC audit report on FAM to facilitate comprehensive debates on governance issues within the football governing body. He highlighted his intent to address the matter during the parliamentary session scheduled to start on June 22, underscoring the importance of public access to the audit report for effective debate.
