Rantau panjang: A father and son have been arrested for allegedly trafficking drugs using courier services in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that they were apprehended when police conducted a raid at their fruit stall and a premises selling vehicle insurance to Thailand in Kampung Banggol Kulim at about 1 pm last Saturday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, police uncovered 40 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis, valued at approximately RM120,000, hidden at the rear of the premises. The illegal activity was allegedly disguised under the facade of their legitimate businesses. The investigation revealed that the 45-year-old father acted as the coordinator, while his 25-year-old son worked as a 'runner,' delivering drug supplies via courier services.
Mohd Yusoff noted that the drug supply was believed to be destined for the domestic market, particularly on the west coast, as well as for international distribution. He further mentioned that the police seized the premises, a Proton X50, a motorcycle, RM184,800 in cash, and jewelry, making the total value of the seizure, including the drugs, close to RM1 million.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until this Saturday to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
