FBM KLCI Rises At Midday Amid Mixed Market Performance

Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia's benchmark index saw an increase by the end of the morning session, demonstrating resilience amid a weaker performance in regional markets. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose by 6.52 points, or 0.40 percent, reaching 1,620.58, up from Tuesday's close of 1,614.06.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the benchmark index initially opened slightly lower by 0.62 of-a-point at 1,613.44, but fluctuated during the session, ranging between 1,613.05 and 1,621.76. Despite a broader market showing where decliners outnumbered gainers 544 to 374, the index managed to climb due to mild accumulation in selected heavyweight stocks.

Turnover for the session amounted to 3.19 billion units, valued at RM1.50 billion. Among the heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank each gained two sen, closing at RM9.94 and RM4.27, respectively. CIMB saw a notable increase of 11 sen to RM7.56, while Hong Leong Bank rose by eight sen to RM21. Other heavyweights like TNB and Press Metal remained unchanged, while IHH Healthcare and CelcomDigi experienced minor declines.

The most active stocks included ACE market debutant Aquawalk, which rose by one sen to 32 sen, and Tanco, which went up by two sen to RM1.01. Meanwhile, in the list of top gainers, BLD Plantation, United Plantations, Petronas Gas, and Can-One saw noticeable increases.

Conversely, Dutch Lady, Nestle, Petronas Dagangan, and Fraser and Neave were among the top losers. On the index board, the FBMT 100 Index, FBM Emas Index, FBM Emas Shariah Index, and the Plantation Index all recorded gains, while the FBM Mid 70 Index and FBM ACE Index experienced declines. Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index rose significantly, while the Industrial Products and Services Index and the Energy Index saw slight decreases.
