Alor setar: Students from underprivileged backgrounds who have received offers to further their studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) may register without having to pay their registration fees upfront. UiTM Kedah branch rector, Associate Professor Dr Mahazir Ismail, said they would be given flexibility and have until mid-December this year to settle their tuition fees.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Associate Professor Dr Mahazir Ismail explained that students need not worry about registration fees immediately. They should register first, and those unable to pay at once can defer payment until the deadline in mid-December. Various forms of assistance, including zakat aid, can be arranged to support students from less privileged backgrounds.
He emphasized that UiTM prioritizes education for Bumiputera students to ensure they have the opportunity to pursue higher levels of education. Dr Mahazir encouraged students who receive an offer to enrol first and begin their studies, assuring them that fee-related matters could be settled later.
In addition, more than 400 new students are expected to enrol in the upcoming intake. The UiTM Kedah branch has already extended early assistance to 10 students from underprivileged families. Through the Ziarah Kasih programme, the university visits families of students in the B40 income group, providing assistance to ease their financial burden in preparing for university admission.
