Kuala Lumpur: Festive season airfares have remained lower and controlled this year, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He attributed this to the government's initiative in setting a price ceiling and the commitment of airlines to increase festive period flight capacity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke noted that while managing airfare prices during festive seasons has historically been challenging, this year has been different. The implementation of a maximum price policy during festive periods has led to fewer complaints about ticket availability and high fares for flights to Sabah and Sarawak. He further mentioned that fixed-fare flights are available at rates even lower than the maximum price.
Loke also shared that he recently met passengers traveling to Sabah and Sarawak to celebrate Aidilfitri. He expressed his gratitude to airlines for their efforts in providing additional capacity during the festive period, acknowledging the complexity and coordination required among various stakeholders, such as regulators, airlines, and airport operators.
He also recognized the dedication of frontline workers, including air traffic controllers, cabin crew, pilots, and ground handlers, for their efforts in ensuring a smooth travel experience for Malaysians during this festive season.
