Kuala lumpur: Fifteen new clusters of influenza and respiratory tract infections have been reported in Epidemiological Week 39/2025, a significant increase from just three clusters in the previous week.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Health Ministry (MOH) stated that most of these clusters are associated with educational institutions, including schools and kindergartens. Importantly, no deaths have been reported in connection with these clusters.
The MOH noted that the total number of clusters for the year has reached 214, which represents a 33 percent decline compared to the same period last year. Laboratory surveillance confirmed that there are no new mutations, and the rise in cases is attributed to existing strains, mainly Influenza A (H3). This trend is consistent with observations in the Southern Hemisphere. The increase in cases is likely influenced by social activities and travel following the holiday season.
According to MOH, the Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) rate remained stable throughout September, fluctuating between 5.65 and 6.25 percent. Hospital admissions for Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) were recorded at 10.65 percent in ME 38/2025 but showed a decline to 9.59 percent in ME 39/2025.
