FINAS Confirms Continued Operations at Hulu Kelang Facilities Amid Headquarters Relocation

Kuala lumpur: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) will maintain its technical and production facilities at the Hulu Kelang Complex, even as it transitions its policy and administrative functions to the new headquarters at Menara FINAS Damansara.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, FINAS chairman Datuk Hans Isaac emphasized that the Hulu Kelang complex will remain operational due to its essential role in supporting industry players and housing significant government investments. "If people say we are shutting everything down, that's not true. The Hulu Kelang complex will continue operating because many creative industry practitioners rely on the facilities there, and the government has invested substantially in those assets," he clarified. Facilities such as the sound stage, audio mixing studios, and post-production suites will continue to operate at Hulu Kelang, while policy and management functions move to the new headquarters.

Hans Isaac made these remarks during a ceremony marking the relocation of FINAS operations. Notable attendees included Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, and FINAS CEO Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib. The relocation of staff and departments from the Petaling Jaya office began last month and is expected to conclude by August 1.

The new 15-storey headquarters will feature two sound stages and a cinema, though the technical setup of these facilities is still in progress and will be prioritized after the staff relocation. Hans commented on the historical significance of the former headquarters in Petaling Jaya, which is part of a land-swap agreement with a local developer dating back a decade. Despite the nostalgia associated with the old site, Hans expressed optimism about the future, stating, "We must move forward with a new vision and direction. We hope the new headquarters will inspire both the nation's creative industry and the FINAS workforce, while injecting fresh momentum through the spirit of 'FINAS 2.0'."
