Fishermen and Boat Owners Encouraged to Appeal for BUDI95 Assistance, Says Anwar

Kuala lumpur: The government will review and consider appeals from fishermen, farmers, and boat owners using RON95 petrol to ensure they benefit from the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. The initiative aims to support small-scale fishermen and boat owners, particularly in states like Sabah, Sarawak, and Kelantan, who use RON95 petrol despite not having a driving license.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that fishermen and farmers already receive special allowances and diesel subsidies. However, those who genuinely use RON95 for their boats can submit an appeal. He assured that the government is committed to assisting eligible individuals, noting that the number of potential beneficiaries is not large, making it feasible to consider their appeals.

Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, mentioned that the consideration for assistance would extend to those who own or use generator sets and lawn mowers. He emphasized that if these devices use RON95, the government could still provide support.

The Prime Minister explained that the BUDI95 programme was introduced to benefit tens of millions of people. He urged the public not to be swayed by parties attempting to discredit the program's implementation. Anwar stressed the importance of the significant benefits the initiative offers and discouraged following narratives aimed at undermining the effort.

Anwar also addressed criticisms from certain quarters, including preachers, who have opposed the BUDI95 programme without understanding the reasoning behind the subsidy rationalization policy. He reiterated that the policy is designed to benefit tens of millions of Malaysians.
