Five Illegal Waste Dumping Sites Identified in Kuala Langat

Kuala langat: KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has identified five locations, each spanning two to four hectares, being used as illegal dumping sites in several areas within the Kuala Langat district.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir, the Managing Director of KDEBWM, stated that the district has become a hotspot for large-scale illegal dumping due to its proximity to the Tanjung Dua Belas landfill. The identified locations include Johan Setia, Sijangkang, Bukit Changgang, Telok Panglima Garang, Tanjung Dua Belas, and land lots near the sea. Ramli suspects that these activities are carried out by external parties, possibly including factories, as all waste management tenders in the district are handled by KDEBWM. He emphasized that the company constantly monitors the schedule and movement of every truck to ensure waste is disposed of correctly.

Ramli further explained that KDEBWM, in collaboration with the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL), has been trying to curb the issue of illegal dumping, including the collection of commercial and institutional industrial waste, over the past three years. However, the problem persists and even increases each year.

In response to the ongoing issue, Ramli mentioned that the contract extension between KDEBWM and MPKL until July 2032 will provide a platform for both parties to plan new approaches to tackle illegal dumping. As an initial step, KDEBWM has launched 25 units of 19-tonne compactor trucks, two 7.5-tonne mini compactors, and one arm roll truck equipped with roll-on roll-off (RoRo) bins, with a total allocation of RM12 million for waste collection throughout the district.

Although managing illegal waste falls outside KDEBWM's scope, Ramli noted that if there is a request from the District and Land Office, he is willing to mobilize available assets to clean up the affected areas with MPKL's assistance.

Earlier today, Ramli, along with MPKL President Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd, officiated the launch of the Compactor Trucks and New KDEBWM Image at the MPKL headquarters compound.
