Johor bahru: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) rescued 34 victims trapped in the flash floods at Umiku Sayang Kindergarten and Childcare Centre in Kampung Mohd Amin here this afternoon. Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer II KUP Zakaria Mohamed, reported that an emergency call was received at 4.26 pm, prompting the dispatch of a Fire Rescue Tender engine with a nine-member crew from the Larkin Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, upon the arrival of the Operations Response Team (PKO), it was confirmed that 34 individuals were trapped inside the premises. The group included 18 infants, 10 children, five teachers, and a cook. Rescue efforts involved evacuating the victims using rescue boats, with support from four members of the Royal Malaysian Police.
In a separate incident, Senior Fire Officer I Wan Nor Afandi Wan Yusoff from the Kempas Fire and Rescue Station stated that his team rescued a five-month-old baby girl trapped due to the floods at her caregiver's house in Kampung Pasir. The baby was subsequently reunited with her mother.
