Flexible Implementation of Co-Teaching Approach in Schools

Kuala lumpur: The team-teaching or co-teaching approach, which involves two teachers in one classroom, will be implemented flexibly only in schools that have adequate teaching staff. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh announced the plan during a Dewan Negara session, highlighting that this initiative will initially be used for a new subject under the 2027 School Curriculum, "Alam dan Manusia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu" (Nature and Humanity: Integrated Learning), for Year One pupils.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wong Kah Woh emphasized that the co-teaching method allows for continuity in the classroom even if one teacher is absent. This ensures that education is not disrupted due to difficulties in finding a relief or temporary teacher. He addressed concerns raised by Senator Datuk Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian about the potential for 'shadowing' or pressure on pupils, suggesting that the two teachers involved need to have a coordinated teaching approach.

The co-teaching initiative represents a shift in the educational strategy, aiming to enhance the learning environment by utilizing the strengths of two educators. The flexibility in its implementation will depend on the availability of teaching staff, ensuring that it is only applied where it is feasible and beneficial.
