Flood Impact Increases Across Kelantan, Penang, Perak, Selangor, and Kedah

Kota bharu: The number of flood victims in the five affected states has continued to rise, with Kelantan experiencing an increase to 9,634 individuals from 3,515 families by 4 pm today. These families have been relocated to 38 temporary relief centers (PPS).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang, Perak, Selangor, and Kedah have also reported a surge in flood victims, while Terengganu has noted a decrease. In Kelantan, particularly, the number of evacuees has risen this evening from 8,248 in the morning. The Social Welfare Department's (JKM) Disaster Information site revealed that 38 PPS have been established across Kota Bharu, Tumpat, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh. Additionally, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that the water levels in Sungai Melor and Sungai Golok have exceeded alert levels.

In Penang, the number of evacuees increased to 404 people from 104 families by evening. JKM's Infobencana website indicated that SK Lahar Yooi in Seberang Perai Utara District is currently housing the majority of victims. Other relief centers include Pusat Peminderan Desa Puri, PPS SK Pengkalan Jaya, and SK Permatang Pasir.

Perak saw a rise in flood victims to 1,415 individuals from 440 families. The Perak State Disaster Management Committee noted that Manjung District is severely impacted, housing 837 evacuees in 10 PPS. Other affected districts include Perak Tengah and Larut, Matang, and Selama, with efforts underway to update flood victim data.

In Selangor, evacuees at eight PPS increased to 327 people from 109 families by 3.30 pm. The ongoing rain has affected five districts, and several PPS have been opened, including Dewan Sri Sekinchan and Kampung Jaya Setia Village Development and Security Committee Service Centre.

Kedah has seen new flooding in Kubang Pasu and Kulim districts. The Kedah JPBN reported the opening of five PPS in Kubang Pasu, with the total number of victims still being assessed. Meanwhile, the Kulim district has 371 evacuees housed in three PPS.

In Terengganu, the number of evacuees decreased to 205 from 77 families by 3 pm. The JKM's InfoBencana website stated that these victims are currently at the Kuala Besut PPS, with the SK Pulau Perhentian PPS having been closed after residents returned home.
