Floods Displace Hundreds in Perak, Relief Centres Opened

Perak: A total of 348 people from 118 families were evacuated as of this morning in the districts of Kampar and Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak, following floods which began late yesterday afternoon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat reported that 297 people from 102 families were placed at four relief centres opened since yesterday. These centres include Dewan Perdana Trong, Dewan Terbuka Masjid Al-Wusta, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Ibol, and SK Matang Gelugor.

The report further stated that 51 people from 16 families were housed at the Dewan Bandaran Gopeng in Kampar. They have been there since June 20 after their homes in Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Kuala Razila were cut off due to a collapsed bridge caused by a water surge.

Meanwhile, the Perak Drainage and Irrigation Department announced that the level of Sungai Slim in Slim River has reached the danger point of 26.38 metres. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also forecast thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon and evening in five districts, namely Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, and Batang Padang.
