Johor bahru: Civil servants must embrace the true values represented by the Malaysian flag in supporting the national aspiration of 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' in conjunction with National Month celebrations, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. He emphasized that true patriotism is not measured merely by how high the Jalur Gemilang is flown, but by the extent to which its values are reflected through actions, decisions, and service to the people.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Azri highlighted the importance of integrity, trust, unity, and excellence in service among civil servants. "Do not just fly the flag, fly integrity, fly trust, fly unity, and fly excellence in service," he urged. He encouraged civil servants to work with greater integrity, professionalism, and a stronger sense of responsibility towards the people, allowing their love for the country to inspire them to provide the best service to every segment of society.
He made these remarks at the 'Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang 2026: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati' programme, organized by the Ministry of Communications through the Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), at UTM Hotel and Residence. The event was attended by notable figures including Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, MOHE secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim, JAPEN director-general Erwin Khairul Ahmad, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim.
Shamsul Azri also called on all Malaysians to support the One House, One Jalur Gemilang campaign to further ignite the spirit of patriotism. He stressed the symbolic importance of the Jalur Gemilang, stating that it should fly proudly as a sign of Malaysia's unity in safeguarding the nation's peace, prosperity, and future.
He reminded attendees that the Jalur Gemilang is not merely a piece of cloth flown on a flagpole, but a symbol of the sovereignty, dignity, and identity of an independent nation. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation's fighters, security personnel, civil servants, and all Malaysians who placed the country's interests above their own.
During the ceremony, Shamsul Azri presented Jalur Gemilang kits to ministry secretaries-general and heads of service, symbolizing the commitment of the entire public service in implementing the initiative.
